๐Ÿ’– 5 Things I Wish I Knew Before Starting Skincare

GlowOnABudget | Affordable Beauty, Real Results

When I first started my skincare journey, I was overwhelmed. Serums, actives, acids, night masks — the beauty world is a maze of fancy products and conflicting advice. If I could go back in time, I’d sit my younger self down and say: “Let’s keep it simple.”
So here’s what I’ve learned — and what I wish I knew before I wasted money, time, and my skin barrier:

1. ๐Ÿ’ธ Expensive Doesn’t Mean Better

That $90 serum? Might work. Might not. Affordable options (hello, The Ordinary and CeraVe ๐Ÿ‘‹) often contain the same active ingredients as their luxury counterparts — minus the branding. Don’t let a price tag define your skincare.

2. ๐Ÿงด Less Is More

You don’t need a 10-step routine. In fact, doing too much can irritate your skin. Start with the basics:

  • A gentle cleanser

  • A hydrating moisturizer

  • Sunscreen
That’s your holy trinity. Everything else? Optional.

3. ๐Ÿ“† Consistency Beats Trends

Trendy ingredients like snail mucin or LED masks can be fun, but no product works overnight. Consistency — not the latest TikTok trend — is what gives you that glow.

4. ๐Ÿคท‍♀️ Your Skin Is Unique

Just because your fave influencer swears by a product doesn’t mean it’ll work for you. Learn your skin type, patch test, and introduce new products slowly. You’re on your own journey.

5. ☀️ SPF Is Non-Negotiable

If you’re not wearing sunscreen daily, you’re wasting your routine. UV damage is real, and SPF is your best anti-aging, anti-acne, anti-everything hero.
Minimum SPF 30. Every. Single. Day.

Final Thoughts ๐Ÿ’ก

Skincare doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. Be kind to your skin, be patient with the process, and stick to what works for you.
And if you’re shopping on a budget — don’t worry. There’s so much good skincare out there under $15.
